How Full-width and Half-width Conversion Works:
Full-width ASCII characters (U+FF01 to U+FF5E) sit exactly 0xFEE0 above their half-width ASCII counterparts (U+0021 to U+007E), and the ideographic space U+3000 maps to the normal space. Half-width katakana (U+FF61 to U+FF9F) are mapped one by one to full-width kana, and a base kana followed by ゙ or ゚ is combined into a single voiced character. Hiragana, kanji and emoji are never changed.
Example:
ABC123 ガギ → ABC123 ガギ ABC123 ガギ → ABC123 ガギ ¥ ⇄ ¥ \ ⇄ \ ~ ⇄ ~
Why Use This Converter:
- >Letters, digits, symbols, spaces and katakana switched separately
- >Voiced and semi-voiced kana combined and split correctly
- >Character counts per type before and after
- >Private: nothing leaves your browser
>> frequently asked questions
Q: What is the difference between zenkaku and hankaku?
A: Zenkaku (full-width) characters take the width of one Japanese character, while hankaku (half-width) characters take half of that, like normal ASCII letters and digits.
Q: Which characters are converted?
A: ASCII letters, digits and symbols, the space, and katakana together with its punctuation and the long vowel mark. Hiragana, kanji and emoji stay as they are.
Q: How are ガ and パ handled?
A: To full-width, a half-width base kana plus ゙ or ゚ becomes one character (ガ to ガ, パ to パ, ヴ to ヴ). To half-width, ガ becomes the two characters ガ. Kana such as ヵ, ヶ, ヮ and ヰ have no half-width form and are left unchanged.
Q: What happens to the yen sign and the tilde?
A: The full-width yen sign ¥ maps to ¥ (U+00A5), \ to the backslash and ~ to the ASCII tilde, and the reverse direction does the same.
Q: Is my text uploaded?
A: No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
