How Unit Conversion Works:
Each unit is defined by a factor to a base unit, such as the metre for length. Converting multiplies the value by the source factor and divides by the target factor. Temperature scales have offsets, so °C to °F uses °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. Fuel economy is inverse: L/100km is 100 divided by km/L, so lower L/100km means higher mpg.
Example:
1 mi = 1.609344 km 0 °C = 32 °F = 273.15 K 30 mpg (US) = 7.8405 L/100km
Why Use This Converter:
- >Metric, US and imperial units side by side
- >Precise factors from official definitions
- >Handles decimal commas and thousands separators

>> frequently asked questions
Q: How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
A: Subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. For example 212 °F is (212 − 32) × 5/9 = 100 °C.
Q: Why is fuel economy converted differently?
A: mpg measures distance per volume while L/100km measures volume per distance, so one is the inverse of the other.
Q: Are US and UK gallons different?
A: Yes. A US gallon is 3.785411784 L and an imperial (UK) gallon is 4.54609 L, so mpg differs between the two.
Q: Can I type numbers with a decimal comma?
A: Yes. Inputs such as 1,5, 1.234,5 and 1,234.5 are understood, as well as scientific notation like 1.5e-3.
Q: Is my data uploaded?
A: No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Length and weight conversion examples
Use Length for inches to centimeters or feet to meters. Use Weight / Mass for pounds to kilograms. Select a category, enter the value and choose the source and target units. For storage sizes such as KB or MB, use Byte Converter instead.
