// QR TECHNICAL INFO

How It Works:

The decoder converts the image to a binarized bitmap, finds the three square finder patterns in the corners, corrects perspective, samples the module grid, and applies Reed-Solomon error correction to recover the data. The decoder used is the open-source jsQR library.

>> frequently asked questions

Q: How do I read a QR code from an image?

A: Drop a screenshot or photo that contains a QR code onto the page, choose a file, or paste an image from your clipboard. The decoded text appears right away.

Q: Is my image uploaded?

A: No. The image is decoded in your browser with a JavaScript QR decoder. Only the small decoder library is downloaded from a CDN; your image never leaves your device.

Q: Why can't it find my QR code?

A: Common causes are blur, glare, very small size, a cropped quiet zone (the white border) or a damaged code. Try a larger, sharper image or crop closer to the code.

Q: Does it read inverted or light-on-dark codes?

A: Yes. Both normal and inverted codes are attempted.

Q: What kind of data can a QR code hold?

A: Plain text, URLs, Wi-Fi settings (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:pass;;), contact cards (vCard), calendar events, email and payment links. The tool shows the raw text exactly as stored.

Q: Are QR codes safe to scan?

A: A QR code is just text, but it can be a phishing link. This tool never opens decoded links automatically, so you can inspect the content before deciding.

Q: Can it read barcodes too?

A: This tool is focused on QR codes. For one-dimensional barcodes use a dedicated barcode scanner.
