JPG to PNG Converter
Convert JPG to PNG locally in your browser. Preview the result, adjust width and download your image.
Drop a file here. Files stay on your device.
When to convert JPG to PNG
JPG and JPEG name the same format. Use this converter when an editor or upload form requires PNG, or when you want to save future edits in a lossless format.
Converting JPEG to PNG does not restore details already lost to JPEG compression. It also does not remove the background or make the image transparent. Photographs often become substantially larger as PNG files.
How to convert your image
Choose or drop an image. Leave Width empty to keep the original dimensions, or enter a width to resize proportionally. Click Convert after changing settings, inspect the preview, then download the result.
The original file is never modified. The result panel reports pixel dimensions and the input and output file sizes so you can judge whether the conversion helps.
Quality, metadata and limits
Re-encoding uses the browser canvas, which does not retain the original EXIF metadata. Do not use this workflow if you need camera metadata, exact color-profile preservation or archival fidelity.
Files are limited to 40 MB and 40 million decoded pixels. Output width and height are each limited to 10,000 pixels. Animated inputs produce a still image. Files are processed on this device; the image is not sent to a conversion server.
Questions & answers
Will this reduce the file size?
Sometimes. The result depends on image content, dimensions and quality. Compare the sizes shown after conversion; a different extension alone does not guarantee a smaller file.
Can I convert JPEG as well as JPG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are equivalent filename extensions for the same image format.
Why does the output look different?
Lossy compression, resizing, transparency replacement and browser color management can change the result. Keep the original and inspect fine text, gradients and edges before using the converted copy.
