Extract PDF Text
Extract an existing PDF text layer locally, with page selection, line grouping and UTF-8 text downloads.
Drop files here. Files stay on your device.
Extract the existing text layer
Choose a PDF and page range, then copy the result or download extracted.txt. Optional page labels identify the source page; form-feed separators keep page boundaries in the text file. Line grouping uses text positions to add line breaks and gaps where appropriate.
Reading order depends on the PDF’s text objects. Multi-column layouts, tables, ligatures and unusual encodings can require manual cleanup. This extracts text and does not reproduce the page’s typography, table structure or image layout.
Scans and limits
A scanned image has no extractable text unless a text layer was added earlier. Empty-page status means no text was found; it is not an OCR result. Limits: 100 MiB input, 200 selected pages, 200,000 text objects per page and 1,000,000 output characters. Font/CMap support files are served locally when needed.
Local processing and file limits
Files are processed in your browser; the PDF is not uploaded. The general limit is 100 MiB and 2,000 source pages, with the lower organizer/render/extraction limits described above. Encrypted or damaged files are rejected. Cancel, clear and input changes invalidate old results.
Questions & answers
Can it read Chinese PDFs?
Yes, when the document has a usable text layer and character mappings. Scanned Chinese pages need OCR; malformed or missing mappings can still produce incomplete text.
Are files uploaded to a server?
No. Files, input text and results stay in your browser. Required engines, fonts and support files load from this site.
