Java Properties ↔ YAML

Convert Java .properties and YAML string mappings with escape handling, continuation lines and optional dotted-key nesting.

How to use

Properties keys and values are strings. The parser supports =, : and whitespace separators, Java Unicode escapes, escaped separators and continuation lines. Duplicate keys use the last value, matching Java Properties loading behavior.

YAML output quotes values such as 001 and true so they remain strings. Reverse conversion expects string-valued mappings, not inferred numbers or booleans. Dotted-key mode expands app.name into nested mappings and flattens them on export; collisions are rejected.

Behavior and limits

This operates on pasted Unicode text, not ISO-8859-1 file bytes. Comments and layout are not preserved. YAML aliases and nesting are bounded; custom tags and non-string leaves are rejected. Input limit: 200,000 characters.

Questions & answers

Will a dotted key always become nested YAML?

Only when dotted-key mode is enabled. Otherwise app.name stays one literal key.

Is my input sent to a server?

No. Processing runs in your browser and input is not submitted to an API. Original files and remote databases are not modified.
