File Hash & Checksum Calculator
Calculate SHA-256, SHA-512 or MD5 from file bytes locally. Stream files in chunks and compare an expected checksum.

How to use
Select up to 20 files and an algorithm, then run the calculation. Files are processed sequentially; the total size limit is 512 MiB. Hashing reads raw bytes, so line endings and byte-order marks affect the result. Filenames do not affect digests.
Paste a published hex checksum to compare it with the calculated result. Comparison is case-insensitive. SHA-256 produces 64 hex digits, SHA-512 produces 128, and MD5 produces 32. Empty files are supported.
For multiple files, the same optional expected checksum is compared separately with each digest.
Behavior and limits
Files up to 512 MiB are processed in 1 MiB chunks, with progress and cancellation. Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for integrity checks. MD5 is retained for legacy checksums and is not collision-resistant. A matching hash does not authenticate an untrusted publisher.
Questions & answers
Does renaming a file change its checksum?
No. Only file contents are hashed. Two files with the same bytes have the same digest even if their names differ.
Can I use this without uploading data?
